What is included in routine gynecological care?

A typical visit includes medical history review, pelvic exam, Pap smear or HPV test as indicated, breast exam, STI screening if needed, and contraception or menstrual health counseling.

Most adults benefit from an annual well-woman visit. Pap/HPV screening intervals vary by age, test type, and past results. Your clinician will set the right schedule for you.

Not always. Depending on your age and whether Pap is combined with HPV testing, screening may be every 3–5 years if previous results are normal. Follow your provider’s guidance.

Avoid vaginal products or douching 24–48 hours before the exam, try not to schedule during heavy bleeding, and bring your medication list and recent test results.

You may feel brief pressure during the pelvic exam or Pap test, but it should not be painful. Tell your clinician if you are uncomfortable so they can adjust the exam.

Yes, testing is offered based on age, risk factors, and symptoms. Your clinician can recommend the right tests during your visit.
